Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the country’s largest not-for-profit pediatric medical centers. Nationwide Children's Hospital sees more than 1 million patients annually with our emergency department seeing nearly 100,000 patients in 2017. The American College of Surgeons verified Nationwide Children's Hospital as Ohio's first Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in 1991, and the hospital has been continuously verified since. To date, Nationwide Children's ImPACTS Program has completed ImPACTS simulation sessions and report-outs at 6 different hospitals. Nationwide Children's has 17 affiliate hospitals and we would like to complete sessions at each of these hospitals. Our future goal is to provide ImPACTS within 6 months for all newly affiliated hospitals.

DJ Scherzer, MD

Physician Lead

DJ Scherzer, MD, is an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. He is the Associate Medical Director of the Simulation Center and a member of the Trauma Executive Board. Interests include simulation-based education and competency assessment, Trauma Team CRM principles, RSI and sedation. DJ has been a pediatric emergency medicine attending at Nationwide Children's since 1996.

Todd Heslep, BSN, RN, Paramedic, CHSE

Nursing Lead

Todd Heslep, BSN, RN, Paramedic, CHSE, is a simulation coordinator at Nationwide Children's Hospital. He worked 9 years on the critical care transport team prior to transitioning into an education role. In addition to his full time simulation position he works contingent at Nationwide Children's off-site urgent cares. Interests include simulation in the community hospital, prehospital emergency medical services, environment testing, and latent safety threat identification. Todd has been on staff at Nationwide Children’s since September 2006.
